Camper Scholarship Fund 2026
Since 1923, Camp McDowell Summer Camp has evolved in countless ways, yet one belief remains at its core: everyone deserves the chance to experience the sacredness of Camp McDowell.
Let’s take a look at the impact in 2024:
- 1,402 campers attended summer camp events at Camp McDowell
- 222 campers requested & received scholarships, never turning anyone away
- A total of $95,237 in scholarships was awarded
Give the gift of a summer camp experience by donating to our Camper Scholarship Fund! Any camper family that asks for financial aid receives it at Camp McDowell and with your help we can provide more scholarships each year.

VOLUNTEER YOUR TIME & TALENTS
We would love to chat with you and your group or organization to coordinate work on a service project for your next visit to McDowell! Or join us for one of our planned Volunteer Weekends throughout the year. Our upcoming Volunteer Weekends are May 8-10, 2026 and October 30-November 1, 2026. Email ben@campmcdowell.org with questions.
BRING BOOKS
Bring books to donate when you come to camp! This annual book-drive has been a ministry since 2006. Make a difference and a BIG impact by helping us collect as many gently used or new books for children and teens as possible to be distributed in the Black Belt region of Alabama. Drop them off at The Camp Store anytime!
VOLUNTEER AT SUMMER CAMP
There are so many opportunities to help out with our summer camp program that we have an entire page dedicated to it! From being a prayer partner to supplying art supplies and so many opportunities in between. If you're willing, we have the need.

Legacy Gifts & Charitable Distribution
- Legacy gifts help ensure that Camp McDowell’s ministry will continue long into the future. By working with your tax advisor or attorney, you can select planned giving options that work best for you and your loved ones. To help you with this planning, please make note of the Camp McDowell Tax ID: #63-6001873, as your financial advisor/institution or attorney may ask for this ID as part of your consultation. Whichever way you give, your gifts help advance the ministry of Camp McDowell and the Episcopal Diocese of Alabama!
For those of you who are 73 or older and may be taking a Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) from a qualified independent retirement account (IRA), you might want to speak with your financial advisor about a qualified charitable distribution (QCD) as this direct gift to Camp McDowell may help you reduce your tax burden. Another way to reduce your tax liability is through a gift of stock directly to the Camp McDowell. If you are interested in either of these options, or in how to name Camp McDowell as a beneficiary in your IRA or in your will, contact us at 205-387-1806.
Eppes Renovation & septic System
A piece of Equipping the Saints campaign includes necessary maintenance at Camp McDowell. Eppes Hall renovation is under way with our next goal being to replace the septic system in Lower Camp. Eppes now has a new roof, larger kitchen, more restrooms, a new back porch, and modern AV! All of this while keeping the authentic camp charm. Meals shared in Eppes Hall will continue to nourish us in body, mind, and spirit.
Thank you to the Foundations & Businesses who support Camp McDowell
